Hello Vets
Got kitten, 12 weeks old now, looks like his body doesn't absorb any food, everything is going straight to the bowels. He is very skinny but he has a huge tummy with a lots of gasses ๐
He doesn't has any diarrhea, not fever, he got good appetite, plays but he is weak and sleeps a lot. What can I do? Any suggestions? What kind of test? Any medicine? ๐๐๐
Hello and I'm sorry to hear about your kitten. About the simplest explanation for this would be a severe case of worms alone, but of course worms can take hold secondarily to other underlying diseases. Kittens presenting like this sometimes have a non existent or limited anus (but would have no history of deafecating). Infectious diseases such as full blown FIP can present similarly. There are some infectious and diet related causes of constipation and diarrhoea, which would cause consequental dehydration and lethargy. Heart failure, liver failure or a rupture to the bladder or kidney tubes could also explain what you are describing. Please see your vet as a matter of urgency - I hope for worms. Your vet might tell a lot from an examination and taking a history, but otherwise can order a plethora of tests depending on their findings. This does sound like an emergency in a kitten so small; please don't wait.
