Hi, I am looking for some advice please. My almost 3 year old Springer X King Charles has recently had some spots appear on her chin. They seem tender as she does not like them to be touched, however she isn’t really reacting to them herself. Every few days she would scratch them with her back foot. No bleeding or anything. She has started to nibble at one paw recently also. She is her normal self apart from this. Any advice would be very helpful in how I can treat this from home, or if a vet visit is required. Thank you.
Hello - it sounds as though your dog is reacting to these lesions, given that she is scratching the one on her chin and licking the one she can reach. It may be that there is also an excess of brown skin in that area, which can result from an excess of drool or lip-licking. Lumps in any place can be inflammatory, parasitic or cancerous (benign cancer or sinister) and any of these could continue to get worse. We would recommend seeing a vet, who might not be able to identify them at first sight, but may suggest for example, either medical treatment to gauge the response, or biopsy. Sometimes, even dental work e.g. where inflammation is secondary to salivation caused by a dental issue. Wishing you and your vet the best of luck in getting to the bottom of this case.
