Hello!  I'm sorry to hear that your dog is struggling to retain his hair. I am not clear from your message whether a) he is licking or scratching and breaking the hairs - as would be typical in itchy areas of allergy patients, flea patients etc. or b) whether the hairs are falling out from the base, or even simply not growing.  The latter can occur in various endocrine disorders including Cuhings disease.  It can also happen with certain drugs. Sometimes, a stressful illness can lead to an increase in the number of demodex mites.  Every dog has a few demodex mites, but a large number of them can cause significant hair loss from the base. Relatively rarely, hair loss can occur in canine lymphoma. Whatever is causing your dogs' symptoms, it is unlikely to be normal and we would reccommend further veterinary appointments as directed, until a diagnosis or solution is reached. Wishing you the both all the best

Hello, He is not itching or scratching anymore than usual. However the hair loss continues. He is being tested for Cushings disease. What would be the typical approach to checking for mites? Thank you.
