Hi Vets! I have a 50lb beagle/pointer mix who is turning 8 years old this year. He currently eats American Journey Active Life Formula Salmon/Brown Rice/Vegetables Dry Kibble (I hydrate it before he eats) I want to make sure I start him on any supplements he may need as he’s getting older or make any diet changes that may help him He is INSANELY active - he keeps up with the puppies at the dog park for hours, people always think he’s 2 or 3. He never runs out of energy. He has no major health issues other than having a very large fatty tumor removed from his chest in Jan 2020 and a very sensitive stomach.

Although I’m not familiar with that particular diet, if it’s a fully balanced and complete diet, the use of specific supplements is a little controversial. Certainly, he shouldn’t need vitamins or minerals. There might, however, be some benefit in using a broad-spectrum joint supplement based on green lipped mussel to help maintain joint function and mobility. Just make sure it’s a dog-suitable one - there have been a few issues reported with human supplements being used in dogs.
