Hello, my cat had to have emergency tail amputation and the wound is healing very slowly. It’s been six weeks and one week ago this purple discoloration appeared on the skin, it looks like a bruise. It’s been there for one week now and doesn’t seem to be going away, but not getting bigger. I’ve asked my vet and my cats dermatologist and neither one gave me any information other than to keep an eye on it. If this is a bruise shouldn’t it be starting to fade? Does skin discoloration happen sometimes six weeks after a tail amputation? Thanks!

Hello!  I don't know anything about your cat or this bruise so I'm going to trust that your vet knows what they're doing and interpret their comment into practical terms.  Perhaps they are happy with it now but want you look at it / photograph it every day so that if there are issues, you will spot them and report them.   Bruises are just dead red blood cells with nowhere to go until the body breaks them down and recycles them.   Some bruises fade slower than others, but they probably just want to be first to know if it is looking worse rather than better.  Best of luck!
