Greetings I need your help. My dog is in very bad shape after spaying. She was suffering from leishmaniasis (on allopurinol therapy) and after the operation there was a strong drop in erythrocytes, hemoglobin and platelets. We were able to find a blood donor, but she is still in poor condition. She was vomiting blood, she was starting to breathe very strangely. Also, after the transfusion there was a large increase in leukocytes which the vet explains that the reason is that she got the blood of a young dog. Is there anyone who can help us?

Hello - and my thoughts go out to you and the patient at this moment.  Yes indeed there may be someone who can help, but as you already have your first opinion vet on the case and it's reached the stage where they're recommending blood transfusions,  it's unlikely to be me ie someone online with only the information given. So what can you do?  I think the first question for your vet is how happy they are with the situation at the moment - is it under control / do they feel that they are able to do as much as can be done to cope with it, or would they like more specialist input?  If the latter, is there someone they could realistically get involved with the case or to whom they can refer you?  This will usually be a second opinion vet - perhaps a specialist at a university.  It may depend what country you are in, too.  A specialist may be happy to give advice to your vet directly over the phone or they might want to see your dog. It might be that they feel that this won't help and that they are already doing everything that can be done; I am unsure what stage they are at, so you will need to ask. Either way, we wish you all the best and please do let us know how things progress from here.
