Hi, my 2y 7m old springer X King Charles has a small wound on her right side. Will be ringing vets tomorrow but wanted to ask here first. Wasn’t there 2 days ago, but appeared and had a small scab on top. Scan has came away and now it’s a wet looking wound on her side. Is there anything I can add/do to help clear this up? It’s not giving her much annoyance, she doesn’t seem to bothered by it. Doesn’t flinch when touched, only becomes irritated if pressing wound. Thank you in advance. 4AFE1F75-C291-49CD-9E41-725BE3F66BE0

Hello!  Commonly a superficial graze will simply dry up and disappear, but it's interesting that this one doesn't appear to be associated with trauma and also that it is moist.  Perhaps it is a wound and its onset wasn't seen?  Sometimes a cat licking at their flank can cause a surpriing amount of damage, most commonly due to fleas or because it's their way of responding to eg abdominal or hind leg pain.  However, there could also be hypersensitivity related causes, bites and even as a sign of internal or infectious disease on occasion so we would reccommend getting this seen.

Oh no!  My apologies - I didnt read your post very well and immediately assumed that I was looking at a cat!   On reflection, however, it doesnt change a lot - if it is being licked at in particular, these can become 'hot spots' very quickly and should be checked.

I mention 'infectious' because other possiblities, especially if not being licked, may inlude systemic infection orRingworm, so this is worth baring in mind (there may be hygeine steps to take - wash your hands extremely well, monitor your own skin and be aware how Ringworm is spread until that is ruled out.  Again, you could ask your vet about it at triage).

Hi Liz, thanks so much for your replies. Yes she’s booked in with vet on Friday morning. She’s had a rough year - benign growth removal on lower eyelid in Feb, now she has another growth on the same eye but the upper eyelid. And this sore on her side also. The growth on her side now looks like the picture attached - not giving her trouble. When touching it she doesn’t really react, only turns her head a bit so guessing it’s sensitive rather than sore. Just worry so much about her. CC5CC035-8A33-49D4-9869-F20AE797B9E2

Just wanted to update this post! Wound on side was seen by vet and was deemed nothing more than a small graze. A cream was given by the vet and the small wound had since cleared up without issue.
