IMG_2101Hi I noticed these red bumps/rash in my dogs ear. I’ve looked it up online but haven’t found anything that looks similar yet. Any ideas?

Hello - there looks to be bruising, but it's hard to tell from a picture.  Does the ear feel thickened, as though there is something between the skin and the cartilage?  Usually the skin of the ear is quite tightly attached to the cartilage, but sometimes they can bleed into the space between the two, a so-called 'aural haematoma'.   Other times, the skin can simply become very itchy, thickened and inflamed, from something like an allergy, mites, a foreign-body to the ear etc.  In fact, most ear cases are strongly linked to chronic skin disease / allergy.  More rarely, blood vessels can bleed spontaneously, e.g. in clotting defects.  Tumours, lumps and bumps, rare rashes etc. may also be considered.   We do recommend showing this ear to your vet for assessment.  Please will you let us know how you get on?

Obviously, the sense of urgency depends on what's happening, but extreme itchiness (self trauma can get very bad quite quickly) or spreading symptoms e.g. bruising, bleeding gums, lethargy are strong indicators for an immediate appointment.  Always ask your vet to triage the situation (assess for urgency) if you have any concerns

Update: there is no itching and he seems pretty normal. His ear feels the same and the red bumps are raised. His other ear is completely fine it’s just the one and my other dog has no problems either. I scheduled a vet appointment for the morning
