Good day! Is it okay to get my 7-year old dog vaccinated twice a year? My new vet advised that she get another dose of the Vanguard Plus 5 L4 (8-in-1) this month (6 months after her first dose last January). I'm a bit anxious because her previous vets administered the vaccine only once a year. Thanks in advance for the response(s)!

Hello there - this is a good question and an easy one to settle.  In the UK, for any vaccination, the 'rules' regarding the circumstances and frequency with it should be given, are laid out in an official sheet of dense text, called the 'data sheet', which is produced by the vaccine company and supplied with the vaccine.  If you dont have a copy of this or need to talk through the reasons for the frequency of the vaccination, please contact your vets and ask for a copy, with or without an explanation for this apparent change.  Your vet should be able to show you how they have arrived at any decisions that they have come to regarding the frequency of vaccination dosing.  A second port of call might be to contact the vaccination company directly; I tried to download the data sheet from their website myself, but on this occasion was unsuccessful.

Hello again - I have done some more searching and it seems that you may be in the States.  The copy of the datasheet that I have found mentions annual vaccinations but clarifies that this frequency may be changed by the attending vet, depending on the animal's lifestyle and risk of exposure to pathogens.  Therefore it may be that given your area, or given your pets' lifestyle, your vet was concerned that extra protection might be needed.  This is something to speak to them about, as they know your dogs' particular circumstances better than I do.

All the best in getting to the bottom of this and I hope that something there was helpful.
