Hi Vets,   Hi Vets! Not an emergency. Just wondered if anyone could tell me what this line of dry skin looks like? It builds up if I don't put a moisturiser on it and there has been some fur loss. She does suffer with skin problems in general but the appearance of this is new.

Hello!   This doesn't point directly to one diagnosis for me, but there are a few types of condition that your vet may be interested in ruling out.  One is a particular mite called Demodex which causes hair-loss, perhaps in conjunction with (hormonal) changes or bodily stress.  Hormones themselves can lead to hair-loss, particularly in entire females with uterine changes, some of which can be malignant;  there are also conditions such as Cushings disease (hyperadrenocorticism) to be bourne in mind.  When skin changes take place, a yeast called Malassezia  (for example) sometimes sees as an opportunity to invade the superficial skin layers, but it is rarely the cause in itself.  We would recommend  a visit to your vets.

You don't mention that your dog is itching, but itchy mange (Sarcoptes) may be another possibility.
