Hi Amazing team at VHD. Quick question, my little bengals kittens are up for the chop today (one boy one girl) and we are taking them in at 10am. We are going to look after them on Friday after the operation but I was talking with my girlfriend and she thinks that they will need lots of looking after on Saturday as well. I was really hoping to go sailing with my friend Robbie on Saturday but by girlfriend thinks the cats will be too frail to be left alone. We are now having a medium level argument about this and I've been accused of being heartless. Could you let me know how much 'looking after' the cats will require after the operation. Best, Huw

Hello!   It's going to be a gorgeous weekend, so I feel for your dilemma.  Most cats just want to be left alone after surgery; they recover faster than you'd think.  Hopefully your vet will give pain-killer meds to keep them comfortable.  However, occasionally cats will lick or pick at their wounds or get stuck with the buster collar, so it's good to have someone keeping half an eye on them - not necessarily intense supervision or active 'looking after', but intermittent / background awareness of how they're doing in case of any issues.  Like many of these things, a lot of the time the cat will be fine but once in a while the owner will have cause to be very grateful they didn't spend the whole day out sailing e.g. if the cats go crazy playing together, or if one cat bites their stitches out, for example.  I'm not sure how long you're planning to be out but the vet who does the surgery, who is responsible for your particular cats' care, will be the best person to guide you.  Best of luck and let us know on Monday what you decided and how it went!
