Hello! I have fallen in love with an adorable Cavapoo puppy and was planning to adopt. After the vet check, I learned that she has pinpoint inguinal hernia- as well as Grade 1 luxating patella. I know there is always a chance health issues will pop up- but could anyone give me insight on whether these issues might resolve on their own or if I’m looking at expensive surgeries if I continue the process of bringing her home? I don’t know how to find this out on my own!  Thank you so much for any help!!

Hello!  I'm afraid that the puppy trade has an ugly side:  dogs are bred for a cute shape, knowing that there will be anatomical abnormalities requiring surgery, and then sold on.  Breeders tell clients that dogs are 'normal,' or 'just need an operation' or that 'its very common in this breed,' but I have a huge objection to the culture of breeding animals with preventable genetic problems on the grounds that the vet can then fix them in surgery.      This culture should not be normalised.  The reason it has become so common is that puppies are sweet and scarce; buyers feel that they may lose their chance to have a future pet if they ask too many questions.
