Hi I’m just wondering if the size of my dogs epididymis is normal or concerning. It’s not red or seemingly painful and he shows no interest in the area IMG_0750

Hello and thank you for this interesting query.  Its always worth saying that although a lot of inflammatory reasons are red or painful, not all of them seem that way - and cancer frequently isn't.  Many dogs, however, do naturally have a surprisingly big epididymis.  It can be useful to stand the dog up and check the testicles from different angles, to see whether or not there is a matching pair.   If the two don't match, we would firmly reccommend seeing your vet.

I have done some further reading about this; Brucella Canis and various infectious / other inflammatory diseases can apparently cause bilateral swelling of the epididimis.  Therefore, even if the testes feel symmetrical, if you are concerned about the size of the epididimis then it may be worth mentioning it to your vet in any case as tests may still be indicated.

What are some common causes of bilateral swelling of the epididymis in dogs, and how can veterinarians diagnose and treat these conditions? Additionally, how can pet owners recognize the symptoms of epididymitis and when should they seek veterinary care?
