Hi there, Our Lhasa Apso girl is 5 years old and we can feel a lump (under the skin) on her right side - stomach area. She is regularly groomed and we only noticed it yesterday, so we assume it hasn't been there for long. It feels like a pea sized lump and it can be moved around when feeling the area. She is currently in season and has been for about 10-14 days, could this be related? I've searched online and read about the potential of it being a lipoma - but we love her so much and are worried by it. Any idea what it could be and if it's worth getting it checked by a vet? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

Hello - and I'm pleased that you asked.  This article (see blog) is still my favourite answer to that question, but I'm biased because I wrote it: .   https://vethelpdirect.com/vetblog/2019/11/04/my-pet-has-a-lump-what-should-i-do/

Thank you, I have given that article a read. In your opinion, is the age, location of lump and the fact she's in heat an indicator perhaps to whether it could be related to being in heat or something worth checking further? Finally - this might sound silly - but it's worth mentioning that occasionally an animal comes to the vets with a lump to the undercarriage that turns out to be a nipple.  However, if there's any doubt, we'd still prefer that you showed it to your vet!

Yes - I always think that it's worth getting lumps checked.

I see - in regards to the nipple thing - lump isn't visible - can only be felt under the skin, so definitely not a nipple this time lol. <script src="moz-extension://1cb2e6fe-78f2-4d3b-99f9-c84b07507500/js/app.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
