Hi, I always worry about my little girl Tinkerbell. She is a 5 lb 9 year old chihuahua. My question is can she eat tangerines and it have no bad effects on her??. She is a very picky eater so it surprised me when she stole a piece of my tangerine . Thank you for your time .

Hello - my understanding is that tangerines aren't reccommended for dogs because they are a) extremely sugary and b) potentially quite acidic, particularly as regards damaging teeth and stomach linings.  They are not actively toxic as far as I am aware, but a surprisingly small quantity can surpass an appropriate amount, especially for small dogs.  As regards any food that you see as a potential toxin, please check with your own vet or the Vetetinary Poisons Information Service.
