Cough in cars

Hello, I witnessed a deep, dry cough in my almost 10yo cat today. I have taken a short video which I can share in a post as needed (no option when the thread is submitted). I suspect this might be a cardiac issue - could you provide your opinion? looking at Vet/Tech responses only. Thank you Ps. I will book an appointment but I know we usually have a few days’ waiting time to consider.

Hello - I didn't actually notice that typo until you pointed it out!  My brain also read 'cats'.     I'm sorry to hear that yours is couging and I'm afraid that, as with humans, there are many different causes of coughing in cats.  Heart disease is quite a common one in patients of that age, but that alone doesn't serve to rule out various other causes.  These might include foreign bodies, polyps, viral infections, cancer, enlarged lymph nodes (for that of other reasons), an enlarged throid gland, high volumes of particulate matter in the air, inflammation of the linings of the airways due to irritants, asthma, fluid collecting in abnormal places and so on.    Your vet will listen to the lungs to roughly locate the lesion and try to characterise the cough, as well as asking you questions about its onset, the times of day that you hear it most and any progression that you have noticed.  The may necessitate radiography or an ultrasound of the chest, or they may feel that there's a case for trying symptomatic treatment.   Good look and please will you let us know how you get on?
