Hi All, My 4 year Old Golden Retriever started getting seizures when he was about 22 months old. Normally its every 20-30 days and multiple episodes lasting two days occur. This time its been longer. He has been on Gardenal and Epicare. Any suggestions to manage cluster seizures Thanks

Hello and thank you for your question.  I trust that you are not in the UK because Epicare and Gardenal are not licensed for dogs here; other drugs have to be used in preference.  However, I understand from your question that despite higher doses / more drugs being given, your pets' seizures are worsening and this may suggest a cause other than epilepsy.  For example, golden retrievers - while presenting with epilepsy signs at an appropriate age - sometimes carry underlying diseases such as Addisons or brain lesions (in some cases tumours).  Given that medical control sounds to be proving complicated, it may be worth asking your vet whether yours could be one of these dogs.  Meanwhile repeated seizures can be dangerous so further interference may be needed in the short-term; please make sure that your vet is aware of / has triaged the worsening situation.   Please will you let know how you both get on?
