image_1So I had to bring my cat to the vet a few weeks ago because he was sick. The vet noticed that my cat oreo has a tooth growth next to his canine, she said it was fine and nothing to worry about. Then I bring Oreo this past weekend for his annual checkup and it’s a different vet and he tells me the tooth is a huge concern and gives me a quote for $2800 to remove it. Thoughts? Photo attached.

Hello and thankyou for your question.  I wonder whether this could be an extra canine, or a retained baby-tooth that never fell out (falling out would be normal).  These can disrupt the developing permanent tooth's path of growth, leading to peridontal disease, malocclusion, chronic dental pain or root absorption problems.  It may be that a dental radiograph would be a useful way in which to assess this mouth; if problems are found or confirmed, there may be a time limit for the tooth's removal if it is not to impact on the rest of the mouth.  Please therefore ask your vet to examine this mouth again  - perhaps with a dental check as the only reason for the consultation - and write notes on it that can be referred to later.
