Gosh! I could send you off down the wrong rabbit-hole here by being assumptive; the answer to your question rather depends on why your dog is off his legs. Is it because he is painful to walk, eg the arthritis, a problem with nerves supplying the limbs (eg a spinal problem), because he is flat with anaemia or a different reason? What does your vet think is wrong and what is his prognosis (likely outcome) / what has been proposed to treat the problem short, medium and long term? Your vet knows an awful lot more about this case than I do by now, so it would be wrong of me to say 'they should do this.'. Rather it seems like a good idea to ask your vet a lot of questions - to understand the nature of the problem and possible solutions, and even whether they would recommend a referral (depending on what is wrong and on where their own skill set lies). Cases presenting like this can be extremely serious. Please do ask lots of questions and let us know how you get on.
