Non-emergency. Vet advice, please! My bichon (15 lbs) broke her hip at 4 months old, and the surgery they did to fix it was a femoral head osteotomy. She did physical therapy for a few months and seemed mostly fine: she walked with no limp, but would sometimes pull that leg up when she ran. It has been a year and a half. I am noticing over the past week or so that she is using that leg less (still walking on it), and that that leg/hip is angled outward, where it wasn't before. She does not seem to be in any pain. It looks like whatever was holding her hip/leg in the right place just decided to relax. I don't want this to progress to where she is crippled. She not even two yet! Are we looking at more surgery? More PT? What can we do to help her and hopefully slow down issues with her hip?

Hello!   I can hear that you are anxious to know what is going on after this unexpected change, and it's good news that you want to find the answers now, before things have chance to progress.  It sounds as though examination and possibly imaging (rpt radiographs etc.) may be needed to quantify the change.  Meanwhile it may make sense to contact your emergency team, just to be sure how much exercise etc. they are happy with her doing in the meantime, and whether they feel she needs more pain medication (pain manifests in a variety of ways, so it is always worth checking even when a dog doesn't seem to be in pain) and how soon they want her to be seen.

Best of luck and I would be very interested to hear how things progress from this point.
