Hi all, I hope everyone is doing well! I just wanted to ask if someone can let me know if my kitten is a boy or a girl because I find it difficult to tell just from looking. I’ve applied for low cost vet treatment at the moment and I’m waiting to hear back from them. It would just make it easier for me to name my cat and have he/she get used to the name. Although I feel like my kitten is a boy I don’t want to assume the gender. Thank you! IMG_8955IMG_8956

Hello - I'm afraid that the answer is always that I can't be sure from these photos and that kittens are better sexed in person.  From the top picture, the kitten looks like a boy; the anus (top hole, poo comes out) and the genital opening are a distance apart, where as in most females they would be closer together, like the two parts of an upside-down exclamation-mark (with the cat on its feet).   However, looking at the bottom picture there appears to be an anus and a long slit, but again quite a distance between the two parts.   There are several explanations for this confusion.  One is simply the camera angle and that your vet will be able to give you a straight answer in person.  However, the second is that the genitals are not typical; that there may be an injury or unusual presentation.  This occurs in all species from time to time.  Please speak to your vet for triage.
