Cat with UTI/ struvite crystals

Hello My female cat has a uti and struvite crystals have been found. I understand these can be dissolved by changing her diet but I am confused which one to choose. Does the hills science plan urinary care dry food dissolve crystals? Or does it have to be a food that specifically has s/d in the title? Thank you

Hello. It sounds as though your veterinary team have assessed the urine and found crystals, so they should have reccommended steps to prevent crystals recurring.  Depending on the system your team has in place, the receptionist might have details of this on your notes.  If this hasn't yet happened, we would reccommend booking an appointment with your veterinary nursing team in order that you can follow their advice.   S/d is usually a prescription diet, so it does have to be prescribed for the patient by their team.

Furthermore, there may be other steps that your team recommend to reduce cystitis signs.  These might include the management and placing of litter trays, increasing water intake and looking at social dynamics within the household.  The differences made by these steps are not trivial.   Searching for 'crystals, feline / cat, urine' in the blog might prove to be very helpful for you.
