Hi there,
A week ago we brought home our new Australian Shepherd/Blue Heeler mix. A few days ago, I noticed some cloudiness and white streaking over her pupil. Unsure if it was always there or not. Doesn't seem to bother her at all. Vet did a dye test, but he didn't give very much info other than we could make an appointment with an opthalmologist.
Does anyone have any ideas about what this might be?
Hello and at risk of sounding as though I'm getting my excuses in early, eyes are a 3D thing. I can see that there is something there but looking from one angle, it is difficult to say exactly where the patterning is. It sounds as though your vet has done a fluorescein test and established that the front of the eye (the cornea, which is the curved clear layer) has no lumps or indentations on it. This implies that whatever you can see is within the eye - in the anterior chamber, between the cornea and iris. Looking from different angles would help to orientate it in the 3D (front to back) direction and would lead to an effective short-list of differentials and how to distinguish between them. If your vet isn't confident in narrowing this down to one diagnosis, they are doing exactly the right thing in sending you to an opthalmologist. Hopefully the expert will assess your vets' history in advance and see you on a timescale appropriate to the lesion. Wishing you all the best and please do let us know what is found.
The picture isn't particularly clear but possible diagnoses in that area may include uveitis, persistent adhesions, worms / ocular parasites, uveal cysts etc.
Thanks so much for your reply. I will definitely look into those further. Here is a link to a video that may show the 3D structures a little more clearly. It's so hard to capture a good photo of such a wriggly little pup!
