4 year old male redtick coonhound. Adopted him from the shelter 2 years ago. He did have kennel cough while in the shelter. He’s healthy. About a week ago our weather has went from 70s to 50s/40s. He is outside during the day till night and he’s under tress outside. Pollen has started here in NC. About the time of the weather changing he started coughing and maybe sneezed a couple of times. The coughing quit at night and now only happens in the mornings when he first wakes up and when I walk him (he does pull on the leash and I have switched to a harness and he still gets choked up when he pulls). Other than the “coughing” he is acting the same. Eating/drinking, running, acting crazy...just his usual self. I’m taking him to the vets Friday but I just want some insight so I can kind of prepare myself!

Sounds like you’re doing everything right! Allergies rarely cause coughing in dogs, although it’s not unknown. Sudden changes in temperature can trigger a reactive airway, which some dogs have after kennel cough - although not usually years later. Of course, another infection is also a possibility, but if he’s completely well, it’s a bit less likely. Overall, the best thing is to get him checked out and see what the clinical exam shows - good luck!
