Hi!! My dog used to live with my grandparents and was always alone, she was always anxious and so she licked her nose raw and her paws, although her nose looks worse than her paws. Since moving in with us, she has stopped, and is very calm most of the time, however, I was wondering if I should do something to help her nose recover? thanks in advance for any answers

Hello!  So the dog has licked their nose raw, is not licking any more but the nose is still raw.   Well, if this is a normal scrape or cut, it will gradually heal on its own so I wouldn't reccommend putting anything on it.   This is particularly true on the nose because creams etc might well end up being ingested and this isn't particularly healthy for the patient.    However, there are some reasons why lesions in such areas may not heal: 1) the opening and closing / general mouth action keeps opening the wound up.   2) the wound gets infected or 3) the wound has an underlying cause eg cancer or autoimmune skin disease or low white blood cells that can affect some dogs, particularly collies and huskies.   Any of these instances need to be picked up, so if a lesion isn't make good progress on a weekly basis, a vets' advice should be sought.

(NB Sorry - just to calrify that - a wound closing up will look different over the course of 5-7 days.  If it is not dramatically improving in that time, then this is not something that is healing by itself and needs to be checked out.
