My two-year-old female dog has a red bump located on her vaginal area. It’s been present for one week and recently has begun to excrete an infectious-lookingIMG_6666IMG_6666 discharge. I haven’t noticed her paying much attention to it, nor does it seem to bother her. Is it most likely just a normal pustular sore? Wanting to know how to proceed. Can I let it run its course and just apply antibiotic ointments or is a veterinarian visit necessary?

Hello! - I wouldn't necessarily advocate putting cream on a pustule or abscess of any size. Pus is nature's way protecting the body - the inflammation or infection is on the inside trying to break out, so putting something on the surface will rarely be of benefit.   There are exceptions.  In some - probably unusual - situations, a barrier  may protect the surface eg from large amounts of discharge.  Like spots on teenagers faces, keeping the area clean and dry is sometimes helpful and antibiotic washes can  have their role in this.   Controlling pain may be important.   If an animal scratches at an area, they will make it worse.   So in answer to your question, a simple pustule might clear up on its own if kept clean.  However, if there is more to it - eg infection, underlying allergy, itching, parasites etc then it could be more complicated and will need to see a vet.   Your vet will help to triage the case as to how urgent it is.
