Hello, our cat had two teeth taken out two days ago under anaesthesia. He was prescribed 50mg gabapentine to be taken twice a day, starting from the evening after he had the teeth removed. He seemed fine yesterday, but today he seems lethargic and slightly wobbly on his legs, and doesn’t want to come out of the bedroom. We have been putting his food bowl on the bedroom floor and he is eating ok. He is using his litter tray ok. Could the gabapentine have gradually built up in his system since he started taking it two evenings ago and could be the reason he seems more lethargic today? He seemed a lot more alert yesterday and was coming into the living room for strokes and to sleep. He is 10 years old and has early stage 2 kidney disease. Thank you.

Hello.   I haven't heard about that happening, but it sounds as though your cat needs to be triaged anyway (to see how soon he needs to be examined) in case there is something more serious going on eg as a consequence of stress or of the GA or by coincidence.   Please do call your vet or their emergency team to talk it over - we'd love to hear how he gets on.

Hello!  I'm not aware of the scenario you described with Tramadol, but I am concerned that your cat isn't well and may need to be triaged sooner rather than later.  Please do call your emergency vets about this.

Thank you. He is doing much better now thankfully and back to his old self. A vet checked him over and everything is fine.
