How to know if our dog is due a booster without previous vaccination papers ?

So we have a 18 month old pug , we have had him for 6 months and was told he would come with papers and vaccination papers etc but he didn’t ! They are now telling us they THINK he is due his booster vaccination but they cannot find the paper work from his previous vaccines .. will the vet vaccinate him if we don’t know it’s due ? Is there a test that can find out what he is vaccinated against? He’s in the kennels at the end of July and they will not accept him without this information   ps, we have his kennel cough vaccine booked for tomorow

Hello!  I'm afraid that it is not unusual to find that breeders cannot provide evidence of pups having being vaccinated after claiming that vaccination has taken place. However, you probably know the pup's date of birth and if the pup was correctly vaccinated by the breeder's vet, then the vet will still have the clinical notes, providing evidence that X number of pups were vaccinated around about eight weeks after the DOB (and again the correct period afterwards, depending on the specific vaccination company).  Their vets will not be able to share this information with you without the breeder's permission. From your new vets' point of view, even this is not be enough to confirm that your dog in particular was correctly vaccinated, unless your can verify that the previous vets' records definitely relate to the same pup i.e. the pup's specific identification chip number was recorded on those same clinical notes. It's definitely worth making these phone-calls, but it may be simpler and more reliable simply to assume that your pup isn't correctly vaccinated and restart the course through your own vets. Vets are generally very happy to restart vaccination, even if a dog may have had a vaccination at some point previously. It may be possible to conduct tests to look for anti-bodies as evidence that a dog has previously been vaccinated, but this is not easy and may not be reliable a year after the vaccination is reported to have taken place. I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but I hope it helps.

In short, the safest thing to do would be to book a complete vaccination course from the beginning.
