I'm sorry for he delay here, mostly caused by translation on my part. I think this reads as follows but I see that you have English, so please check it for me : Accidentally, I gave me cat a lower dose of flea treatment than that which was recommended. It was not prescribed by the veterinary surgeon and I think that my cat could have ear-mites (not caused by the flea treatment, I suspect that he had this before, but I didn't think that the wormer would be a problem). Could anything else happen to him? Is there anything I can do to correct any problems I might have caused? Should I just stop giving the medication or find out which is right? He appears completely normal physically and behaviourally. The dewormer was given yesterday around 2 or 3 pm. Reply to follow

Thank you for this interesting question and my apologies that it has taken me some time to do a very crude translation. I don't know the name of the medication that you gave, but I think that it was actually a worm medication, or Anti-helmintic, which you bought "over the counter" (without prescription). Assuming your location to be Italy but even in the UK, OTC anti-Helmintics can actually be strong drugs with side-effects; there are many different kinds and formulations and they are not all the same. I think I understand that the patient may not have taken the full dose but this may not make any difference. A second problem appears to be that your cat has an ear infection but that this occurred BEFORE the worming drug was given so you don't think that the two were linked. however, the stress of administration may have worsened things. I would have made the following recommendations: Always contact your vet or pharmacist with details of what your pet has taken as soon as possible after administration. This way, they can advise you appropriately and check the appropriateness of the dose. Underdosing can be a problem with antiparasitics; any offspring of the parasites may therefore be resistant to the drug next time it is used. Secondly, some drugs can damage the ears or balance system and not knowing what medications your cat took, I cannot be sure about this. Thirdly, parasites of the ear may be causing problems here, including mites (or hookworms which can cause itchy skin and this may, at times, include the ears). This sounds to be a complex problem and one which is difficult to solve without examination and a little more context; I am not sure how your cat is now, but please do call your vets for the case to be triaged as to its urgency.
