Hi, I think my dog has IVDD between stages 2 and 3. Has not had an MRI yet but the vet put him on pain meds RIMDALY for two weeks. It has been around 5 days since first episode. Will this continue to deteriorate to stage 4? Or is the injury stagnant and how do we know if it's getting better? He's on crate rest, also taking some Gabapentin when needed. He can stand but walking is wobbly and then he'll have to sit down. He still has feeling on his hind feet. His two front paws are fine. Thanks for your help.

Hello I'm glad that your dog appears to be improving.  Unfortunately, because the exact nature of the lesion isn't known, it is hard to predict how your dog will respond overall.  Even two dogs with the same diagnosis will not necessarily respond in the same way to the same treatment, if the natue of the injury is different.  Your vet, with or without the help of a neurologist or MRI scans, will be able to give you their best guess and the more specialism they have in an area, and the more of that and similar tests / scans and neurology work-up they have seen, the more reliable an answer they will be able to give you.   I know that I have less information about your dogs' future than your vets at this stage, so I'm afraid that I am unqualified to attempt to answer this question.
