yesterday evening after 8pm, we administered Spectra 9vaccine to our 12 week old GSD puppy. Today she has Diarrhea and is vomiting and lethargic. I need to know if I need to get her to the vet or watch her and try and combat it I have given her sub Q fluids, and plan to keep up on it if recommended.

Hello - thank you for letting me know.  You don't seem to have any asked questions about this, so I hope you'll forgive me for sticking my two pennorth in anyway - indeed, I assume that that's why you posted.  The correct thing to do in this situation would be to call your vets' office for triage.  When a puppy is lethargic with vomiting and diarrhoea, they might well need intravenous fluids and this is best assessed by a veterinary surgeon either live online or in a consultation.

Sorry - I have now reread your comment properly and can see that you have indeed asked a question, so apologies for that.  And that I have answered it, but will do so again for clarity with my apologies.  Yes, indeed you need - as a minimum - to ask for a vet to triage this situation.  Most vets will want to examine your pup.  Puppies go downhill quickly when they kose fluid and this one is losing it from both ends.  I wish you the very best of luck taking this case forward.

More information about sub-cut fluids (for anyone else reading, this is fluid injected directly under the skin (i.e. with an injection needle) rather than into the circulation (i.e. a drip)).  This can sometimes be useful in replacing long-term fluid losses, particularly for chronically ill (long-term ill) patients.  It is a way to get fluid into a patient who cannot swallow water or keep it down.  However, when an animal is acutely (quickly, or short-term) dehydrated (e.g. from vomiting and diarrhoea), the fluid losses often lead to a direct reduction in the volume of blood flowing through their body and this can impact on the circulation and thereby the kidneys.  Such fluid losses can be accompanied by changes in the blood electrolytes that in turm affect the heart-rate, the muscle's ability to contract and the removal of waste products (which are potentially harmful), from the circulation.  A drip will work faster to combat this life-threatening situation, putting the fluid back exactly where it is needed.  Therefore, all puppies with vomiting and / or severe diarrhoea should see a vet.

I can see no evidence linking the current situation to yesterday's vaccination at this stage.  Many of the puppies across your country that come down acutely with V & D yesterday, had not not have a vaccination just the previous day and yet still came down with V & D.  If - for example - ten puppies all had a vaccine and nine of them came down with V & D the following day, I would definitely wonder whether it was not a coincidence.  However, a sample size of one is not helpful in this regard.
