Hi vets! My dog had a skin tag that started bleeding so I took him to the vet and after they checked on it they said it needed to be removed because it was already cut in half and they proceeded with local anesthesia only. The skin tag was removed successfully in the morning today. He was acting normal until he threw up at night. My question is if it is normal for a dog to throw up after having just local anesthesia? Should I expect him to keep throwing up or could something be going wrong?

Hello!  I hope that the vomiting has stopped now. Vomiting is not, to the best of my knowledge, a normal side-effect of local anaesthesia, although your vet is the best person to ask because they know exactly what drug they gave. They can then follow up the full list of side-effects by checking the formulary. Many vets would also give an injection of pain relief for after the local wore off and some might have elected to give an antibiotic, so it's definitely worthwhile checking.  However, dogs can vomit for emotional reasons such as anxiety or from eating too fast, just like we can. They can also get pancreatitis or vomiting 'bugs' in the same way as well, so it's entirely possible that the use of drugs may be a complete red herring and a vomiting dog should be treated like all other vomiting dogs and be seen regularly to assess their hydration.

If you haven't seen a vet again yet and the pet is still vomiting, please ask them to assess the case. This would be the safest course of action.
