Hello!   Lots of ideas here, but glad youre going to the vets because they'll tell you which one, or if a different one, is correct.   Im thinking about a wide range of things withba wide range of severities, like worms (round worms, tape worms), haemorrhagic diarrhoea, clotting problems, anal gland  abnormalities, a bleeding lump or foreign body up there, allergy / inflammation, infectious disease (Parvo etc) and so on.   I hope that your vet can help put things on the right track to finding out.

As a rule of thumb, blood that looks unchanged - bright red - is often from the back end of the GI tract (rectum, large intestine); blood that looks digested (black) is more likely to originate towards the beginning.  Wishing you all the best with your dog.   If there are large volumes, or they seem ill in themselves, definitely ask on the phone to be assessed in case of emergency.

The Common reasons for a dog pooping blood include food allergies, constipation, eating something unsuitable, bacterial or viral infection, colitis, or injury
