Small lump on dog groin

Hi vets, I just noticed a small lump in my dog’s groin area, above her vulva. She’s a 2 year old spayed female Pomeranian. I did call the vet and scheduled an appt for Saturday because I don’t feel it’s too urgent. It doesn’t seem to bother her. Any ideas what it might be? It’s firm but movable. Hernia? Lipoma? Worse? Thanks!

Hello!   There are lots of possibilities - search for 'lump' in the blog if you haven't already, as lumps in general are covered well within these articles.   I wonder how deep the lump is?  If it feels as though it's within the skin layer, it may be, for example a cancerous or non-cancerous skin lump, inflamed follicle or abscess (filled with pus).  If it sits deeper than that in the fold of the groin, it may still be any of the above but could also be a raised lymph-node.  Even if that's the case, it doesn't necessarily mean something sinister:  lymph nodes also become enlarged if there is inflammation or infection in the adjacent area for some reason.  Two year old dogs can suffer from cancer and cancer is usually non-painful, but inflammation may be more common at this age.  We would advise showing it to a vet sooner rather than later in case they need to take more steps to identify it.  Best of luck - and please do let us know how it goes.
