Hi vets! My 2 year old mini Aussie is just starting up with his allergy season. Last year it began in August and symptoms stopped by October. This year, he’s started his symptoms a couple weeks early. He’s been itchy on the top of his hind feet, his ears, and I noticed a little ring of inflamed skin around one of his eyes. Any recommendations to keep him comfortable? Perhaps medicated bath or a supplement to give him that will help? Thanks very much! 🦴

Hello! It can help to 'rinse' allergic dogs in water, or at least a footbath and wipe them with a cloth, after walks to remove any tiny pollen fragments etc that may be stuck to them.  It's also worth keeping notes in a diary so that you can spot patterns, and telling your vet about it.  If this is allergy, it is likely to be a long term condition and treatment has two facets:  On one hand, avoiding or habituating to whatever sets them off and on the other, treating the 'itch' and any secondary problems, whenever they recurr. A lot of 'old wives remedies' are sold to help itchy dogs, but few of them work. Your vet may want to rule out other causes eg parasites first eg mites and fleas, because parasites are easy to rule out and a large proportion of allergies are thought to be to related to parasites. Best of luck

Sorry, I have waffled: 1) see your vet. 2) prepare for this to be a long-term, ongoing problem not necessarily something that will just 'get better' with a single set of treatment. 3) consider footbaths against environmental allergens. 4) wishing you luck
