Hi there, On Friday night our dog had terrible diarrhea and vomited bile once. He never has stomach issues so we took him to the vet. They said he probably ate something he shouldn't have and gave him an antibiotic injection and anti nausea injection and gave us antibiotics for 4 days. Our dog has been fine no diarrhea but he hasn't made a poo since Saturday. How many days is it ok for him not to poo after diarrhea? He has also developed hives that appear so quickly and then they go away 5mins later normally when we are outside. It could be completely unrelated but they started after he got the injection, the vet said it may be a reaction to the injection but the tablets were a different brand so we must start them the following day which was Sunday. He is completely normal and himself otherwise. Eating and drinking water. The hives don't seem to bother him because they aren't there for very long.   Thanks so much :)

Hello!  It not unusual for a dog not to poo for a few days after diarrhoea - the diarrhoea empties the tract and then food starts to move slowly along it again, taking a few days to actually get to the rectum.  It's worth checking with your vet after how many days they'd like to see you again (we can't answer for them as different vets will have different ideas / protocols) but unless the patient seems uncomfortable or has other symptoms, a few days are often okay. It sounds as though the hives are recurrent and may be worth writing this in a diary - sometimes owners can link them to certain time of year, going to certain places etc.   They can get progressively worse so it's worth keeping your vet updated - and the diary's a good aid for doing so. Hope this helps.
