My dog, Bear, suddenly grew this swelling around March 5th. It was a small bump the first day (Monday), then grew later that night (photo #1) Throughout the week, it would grow and shrink - last night it grew to the biggest it has been (photo #2). We changed his food last week to Nutro Natural Choice, he lives with another older dog and cat - in which, they all get along. The swelling is like a bruise - doesn't hurt with a light touch, but does with pressure. We think it's an abscess tooth or a bite from a bug. We're gonna have to eventually take him to the vet if it doesn't get better - we just don't know much, it came out of nowhere. 275080644_470956628073766_717527030549268370_n274792915_694321765324292_710029110438016103_n

Hello!  This looks as though it may be an emergency.  Please contact your local vets emergency line to be triaged if you haven't already.   I will write more tomorrow

It is a common belief that an eye can tell a lot about individual health. Just like you, your pup's eye can show its health clearly. Change in the coating of their eyes or any pigmentation can directly signify some deficiency in their body. In the worst scenario, these can be the initial symptoms of some severe disease. However, that is not much in the case of dog styes; they are not that serious, but they can damage your furry friend’s eyes if not treated in a timely manner.

Generally, emergency vets' guidelines are that if it's an eye, it needs to be seen as an emergency.   Lumps on the eyelids or marks to the skin of the eye not so much, but swollen eyes, red eyes and painful eyes can all deteriorate extremely rapidly.   Possibilities for an 'enlarged eye,' for example can include an increase in intraocular pressure (which can lead to blindness) and these must be ruled out.  Any abscess close to the eye could exert pressure on the eyeball, causing secondary problems. This post is now a few days old so I suspect that this eye will have now been examined.   What they find?
