Cytopoint for itching

Hello i was wandering if I was able to inject my own dog with Cytapoint every few months if I buy it online?  I have insurance but it keeps increasing so much because I use it for the injections!   Thank you for any advice! I know had to inject as I inject myself daily for my osteoporosis!

Hello!  In my clinics, I have been very happy for competent owners to give certain injections at home, in the rare cases where I haven't needed to check the animal over at the same time as giving the injection (most commonly, diabetes which needs to be given twice daily in a typical situation).  However, what I would do here is irrelevant because this is one for the prescribing vet, who takes overall responsibility for making their patient's decisions and keeping them safe.   Each such decision is specific to an animal, an owner, to the situation and to the drug being given.

I have been on to Zoetis' website, which firmly describes the product as an 'in-clinic jab.'  I'm not clear about the reasons for this in this case, but there is an option to contact them.

The injection does only need to be given periodically - approximately monthly - so it is very different from giving insulin.  It is usually helpful for a vet to examine skin lesions periodically in any case throughout the course - and to monitor progress.  On the whole for this product, I would say that once monthly is appropriate.
