Hello, our golden retriever has developed a bald patch above her nose. She's 16 months old and when we first noticed it 6 months ago and mentioned it to the vet in a check up they didn't seem too bothered by it.
Should I follow up with a specific appointment for it now, or is it something common?
Thanks for your help,
Joe (and Ginny)
Hello! I agree that this isn't particularly common and that a specific veterinary consult would be a good idea. Ringworm or other fungal diseases can cause bald patches like this but I do also wonder about autoimmune changes, including those associated with hypothyroidism or some more unusual autoimmune conditions that manifest at the mucocutaneous junction.
It may be that trial treatment for ringworm or a biopsy is suggested, so definitely worth going to see them.
