Dog licking his paws

I own a Beagle. He recently developed this new habit of licking his paws every time. I heard from one of the trainers to opt for dog socks as it helps in stopping this addiction. Hello.  I haven't followed the link but I am worried that you view paw licking as an addiction.  This is rarely something that dogs do because they are bored or stressed or psychologically needy in some way.  Rather, view paw licking as a kind of scratching - seeking releif for an allergy, for example.  Most paw lickers have a skin allergy and are licking their toes to scratch. So: What to do?  Sometimes the allergen (pollen for example) gets stuck to their paws every time they go outside, so standing them in a bucket after a walk and washing their feet can remove microscopic allergens and offer some relief.   However if this has come to be a habit then secondary yeast or bacterial infections may complicate the situation and furthermore, sometimes the itching can be so bad that it may be worth considering medical treatment.  Please go to see your vet.

There are sometimes also other medical causes involved, so please also keep an open mind - allergy is only one possibility.  There are also parasites, for instance, that may be involved.
