Dog has bump/lump on bridge of nose.

My German Shorthair Pointer has this bump/lump on the bridge of her nose. She has had it for about 5 months. It isn’t really growing. My vet says it is nothing to be concerned about and if I want I can do a biopsy for $500. I also have read that if it is cancer and I do a biopsy of the tissue that the cells can spread like wild fire and the cancer can spread. She is 16 months old. She is active and does track wounded deer. It doesn’t bother at all. She was given ketoconazole for 30 days but it did not do anything. 

Hello  It sounds as though there is a swelling to the muzzle and I wonder if its possible that there is also baldness / hair loss just back from the nose, or whether perhaps the fur has been trimmed, giving that impression?  Cancer is always a possibility for lumps, although relatively unusual at six months.  However, baldness and inflammation of the skin around noses can also occur with some auto-immune diseases for example lupoid dermatosis,  specifically common in pointers, and also with Demodex mites or even fungal infections.  Obviously I can't see or examine this closely enough to give an opinion, or feel that lump you describe, so your vets would be good people to ask.  In general, vets often talk to dermatology or pathology experts in order to decide whether and how to biopsy a lesion.  Taking a biopsy from normal skin doesn't usually cause problems and a biopsy from abnormal tissue is often needed, in order to identify and thereby treat it correctly.
