Hi vets, My dog has pelvic bladder and a shortened urethra diagnosed by ultrasound. Unfortunately, the specialist we were referred to isn't booking appointments for months. Is this urgent? Does pelvic bladder require surgery and will it be a lifelong condition? Asking because my dog is a working guide dog and we are considering retirement due to these health issues.

Hello! When specialists aren't booking appointments for a long time, sometimes they can make time to have a quick chat or reccommend an instruction sheet or free CPD video to your vet.  This may be well worth persuing - especially in light of a Guide dogs' career resting on this.  I do not do these operations so my understanding pales in comparison to theirs, but I suspect that correcting a pelvic bladder might be fully successful in some percentage of cases, and that your surgeon may be able to provide an idea of the figures and the time-scales involved for the  Guixe Dogs' Association.   I think that each surgeons will have their own figures for this - I'm sorry not to be much direct help.
