Hi. I am wondering if it is safe and most importantly if it is reasonable and sane  to fly with my dog. He is a 12 year old chihuahua that developed a cough and has been diagnosed with a low or starting stage of a bronchial collapse with also a possible initial stage of heart problems. He only coughs after drinking water so it is not too serious but I don’t want to make it worse by taking him on a flight if that could worsen his condition or give him more severe and serious problems. I have talked to his vets and they say it is safe as long as we keep his meds schedule but I want to know a second opinion to say something. He takes pimobendan and glucosamine with tramadol daily. He also has nebulization every 24 hours. He is very stable and doesn’t show any other symptoms other than the cough after drinking water which doesn’t happen every time he drinks it but does happen  daily. thanks for your time

Hello!  Im afraid that we are not in a position to support or question your vets' judgement because they have seen the dog, which we haven't, and have information on which to base their opinion.   This may include airline guidelines as to what requirements a dog has to meet in order to be judged 'safe to fly'.  Our service can be helpful in giving out extra information on certain topics, but a true second opinion is always given by someone with more information available to them than your own vet -   this is often expertise in a specific area or advanced imaging, for example - which we have not - and when it comes to flying, your vet has a legal authority that I do not.  However, I am sure that your vet would arrange a second opinion for you, or talk through their decision, if you need that.
