Continued Prescription Of Epiphen

Hi, my 8 year old spaniel has been on Epiphen, Levitceteram and Libromide for the last two years to control his cluster seizures.  This has been extremely succesful, and we are seizure free for over a year now.  However my vet is now insisting on seeing the dog every 6 months to review his Epiphen intake due to a 'change in legislation' regarding its prescription.  They tried similar earlier in the year, but we agreed a yearly check, as we felt taking bloods etc that regularly was excessive (my dog does not react well to anaesthesia).  This latest attempt to renege on that, they say, is due to this change of legislation.  Please could anyone shed any light on this?

Hello - yes, indeed, there has been a change to UK medication prescription guidelines and if look to the blog on our site (there's a search-bar if you need it), you will find these detailed in an article by David Harris (dated 5th September, entitled 'New Prescribing rules for UK vets.')   What's interesting about this case is that, as a locum who moved between many different practises for years, 6 monthly strikes me as the maximum time that I have been used to seeing vets leave between meds reviews.  So it strikes me that your vet really has been - and is contuing to - try very hard to keep extra vet visits for meds checks to a minimum for you.
