I have a 4 year old whippet, she sleeps in her crate every night inside and then spends most of the day outside usually she's fine with it but lately she like goes into a massive stress mode or panic attack and tries to escape up the side fence and she goes into lots of panting and puffing she'll whine if no one attends to her because all she wants to do is to escape out the front, she has only just started doing it within the last month but its getting worst she will go outside from like 9am and then by 10 or 11 shes into panic mode and the only way to help calm her down is put her in her crate and she goes to sleep i dont know what to do i purchased calming treats for her and they dont seem to work, she has a thunder jacket but that doesnt work, we have another pup that plays with her and we have a cat he also spends tome with her so shes not alone when shes outside Any suggestions..

Hello - could your dog be coming into season?  Restlessness can be a huge symptom of this.  I also wondered about an adverse event happening outside - this could be as innocuous as prolonged boredom or a hailstorm or a bad experience with a neighbours' cat.  If an animal is terrified in a situation, then continually exposing them to it may exacerbate the problem;  is there another way to structure her days?  When does she usually go for a walk and could more walking time substitute yard time for a while?   I feel that before you try anything like that, your vet should be able to take a full history and examine the patient, in order to ensure that this is a behavioural change and not a medical one.
