Hello there - You asked whether daily pooping is normal. Based on experience rather than a scientific paper, most dogs do deafecate at least once every day. Does it worry me if a dog only deafecates every other day? - not so long as they are deafecating comfortably ie are not sore, dry or causing themselves eg hip pain on pushing faeces out (making them reluctant and leading to inadequate-looking. faeces). I could ask these questions of you, but it would actually be unusual for an owner to notice a dog being sore as a cause for their deafecating less; it is hard to spot (of course the dog still deafecates, they just wait until it is a little more urgent before they brave it). Another concern I might have, longer term, is whether the patient is getting enough water and fibre to produce a good quality stool and whether this is affecting on-going bowel health. It could even be a sign secondary to bowel cancer, ongoing dehydration, or to other medical conditions or problems relating to reabsorpton. So, although the presenting concern sounds somewhat innocuous, I am already worrying about your dogs' musculoskeletal comfort, kidneys (hydration) and other internal processes (eg liver disease). I also wonder whether there may be a more appropriate diet for this individual.
It's worth that trip to the vet, in the very least to help you to maximise your dogs' bodily comfort and hydration going forward. Wishing you both all the best.
