my dog Harley did this sometime today I noticed it this evening when she was sitting on the couch. It’s not bleeding but she is limping. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hello - this looks to be quite deep and there are tendons under there. It does not surprise me that the patient is limping. Questions for your vet to sort out are a) whether this is deep enough that muscle / tendon may need to be repaired b) how it occured and whether measures against infection (ie antibiotics) are required (eg with bite wounds) and c) how to reduce the pain that this patient is experiencing. Limping is a direct sign of pain; animals do it because it hurts more to walk normally. Some wounds looking like this from the outside will scan over and heal but others can be much more serious. I would argue that it's worth the vet check.
