Cast of characters:
  • Winnie, 1 1/2 yr old, male, neutered, English cocker spaniel
  • Rex, 9 yr old, male, intact, Labrador
  • Kodiak, 2 yr old, male, intact, newfoundland
Story and the problem:
  • Winnie got a bath of Saturday. Normal experience, lots of zoomies, and sniffing
  • Saturday night as Winnie dried off Kodiak started following him around cleaning him. This is not unusual - he’s Kodys baby in many ways.
  • This devolved into an obsession with sniffing and licking Winnie’s penis. Eventually Winnie is giving corrective nips significant enough to make Kodiak back off for a moment or 2.
  • Apparently Winnie is now super sexy spaniel because Rex starts in on the game and when he can’t have Winnie he cries.
  • Poor Winnie isn’t happy and hides with mommy as much as he can.
  • I gave winnie a water based wipe down pretty thoroughly and separated him for about an hour. No luck.
  • I gave Rex and Kodiak anxiety meds (prescribed). Kodiak fell asleep. Rex remained determined.
  • I was at my office today and not home but they’re definitely continuing into this evening. Rex had been given a stronger dose of anxiety meds tonight. Kodiak I gave the same dose to. It hasn’t fully calmed Rex down but he’s not stalking the poor little guy.
Help! Any ideas of what’s going on would help greatly! If you can think of anything to try I’ll do it. My next step is the vet and money is pretty tight.
