My 7 year old Miniature Dachshund has been diagnosed with IVDD. My vet said it is possible for her to recover from and he wants her to go on increasingly long walks from starting at 15 minutes and increasing by 5 minutes every 4 days, until she reaches 1 hour. I asked if 2 half hour walks was what was intended and he said no, one full hour walk all at once. I just wanted to get a 2nd opinion on this bc it seems like a very long time for such a little dog to be walking, she is only 11 lbs and has such short legs, I feel like this will be so exhausting for her. But I want what’s best for my dog so if this is what most vets would recommend then that is what I am going to try to do. She was also on some muscle relaxers and pain pills for a few weeks and he said he doesn’t think she needs those anymore since she doesn’t seem to be in pain and he’s said she isn’t doing that bad compared to some other dachshunds that have a similar problem.
